This is why I got passion for marketing!
“So thank you #13 goes to a woman that was involved in giving me my first big boost in the Swedish IT speaker scene. She didn’t give me a speaker gig, but she did something much better…
Well, she did indirectly, and directly give me speaker gigs as well, but that isn’t the main point.
Liselotte Westling Isacsson ran a Microsoft initiative called MEET, Microsoft Extended Experts Team, which was a group of developer- and IT-pro speakers that got support from Microsoft in the form of things like speaker training, so that when we spoke about Microsoft stuff, we would do it in the best way possible.
After having only done a single road show with Microsoft, Liselotte invited me to join the team. A team I, as well as pretty much everyone else, knew nothing about.
Full of youthful hubris I accepted without thinking, which is probably one of the single most important things I have done for my speaker career. However, I must admit that it was a VERY humbling experience walking into the first meeting and seeing all of the big names that were there.
Over the years, I got to hang out with some fantastic people in MEET. I got educated by some extra ordinary people. And I got pushed so far out of my comfort zone that it isn’t even funny. But in the end, it made me grow in ways I would never have imagined. And it still makes me grow. Even if I am not part of MEET anymore, I still meet the people at conferences and events all around the world. And they all feel like friends!
It is also directly or indirectly through MEET that I have met a lot of the other people I have decided to thank this Christmas.
So thank you Liselotte for giving me that break! It allowed me to meet so many fantastic and inspiring people, as well as gave me a much needed boost into the speaker scene in Sweden. Not to mention how it changed things in my life, both professionally and personally. I want to say mostly professionally, but that wouldn’t be true. The people I met, the challenges I faced with, and the things I did through MEET probably changed me more on a personal level. On the other hand, that personal change probably also affected me in a way that benefited from professionally.”
Passion for Marketing
